Jacklyn Michele Henderson

1989 – 2017

Graduate of Oyster Bay High School. Biology Teacher and Cross Country Coach at North Monterey County High School, Castroville, CA. Beautiful person, devoted teacher, dedicated athlete, world traveler, lived as if every day was her last. Beloved daughter of Grace E. Papaccio and her husband Thomas, and Jason Henderson and his wife Melissa. Loving sister of Kyle, Richard, Julia, Greyson, Willow, and Marissa. Cherished granddaughter of Richard and Julia Henderson

Jacklyn Henderson Grew up in Oyster Bay, NY, and moved across the country to teach biology and coach the track and cross country teams at North Monterey County High School in Castroville, CA. Previously, she attended Hunter College and starred on the Hawks’ track and cross country teams, earning Runner of the Year at the 2010 CUNYAC cross country championship. She also participated in many running events outside of school. Jacklyn touched the spirit of everyone who met her. She influenced her students and her colleagues alike with her incredible passion for teaching. A talented athlete with a joy for life, she was always happy, always smiling, and her persona uplifted everyone around her. She was beloved not only by her parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends, but by the North Monterey County High School family, the Hunter Hawks family, and the entire town of Oyster Bay. Jacklyn truly exemplified what people mean when they say “living life to the fullest.” She was not afraid to take risks and jumped at every opportunity presented to her. She took the time to welcome new people into her life, laugh with them, and inspire them. Jacklyn’s life was tragically cut short, but it was, undoubtedly, a life fully lived.

We are proud to open up the Jacklyn Henderson Leadership Scholarship fund at North Monterey County High School, benefiting students studying the sciences. Jackie was passionate about teaching science and was a true part of the fabric of the science department at the school.
